Art Car, Day 8 -- Bumper Update! Art Cars Give Artists a Reason to Live!

We’re done with the car! Before going out and working on the car, we decided to replace the Coke Bottles on the bumper with sponsorship “sticker” for Campbell’s and Brillo. While those were being painted on the car, we continued to clean up the rest of the car. This included painting over white spots, covering up mistakes and cleaning up lines.
Afterwards, we watched the documentary, Automorphosis, on art cars. Different owners of numerous art cars talked about their cars and explained the backstory to them. I was most surprised by how important the cars were to the owners. Many of them talked about how the car was a part of them and some even said that it gave them a reason to live. While we got to see many very beautiful cars, the entire documentary was not happy. One of the owners got into a car crash with his car which required him to completely restart. There were owners who talked about how they knew that they would eventually have to let the cars go because of the expense. A lot of the cars are very old so they don’t have much more life in them but like the man that got into the crash, they plan on restarting and making a new art car. --Clark, class of 2021
