Art Car 2024: Day 3

In the morning, the first project that we worked to put together was one of the ramen bowls. The bowl of ramen was made using the spray foam, which acted as the filling and we had topped it with previously carved out ramen toppings. We had learned that for the next bowl it would be best for the filling to be scrap material instead of being made entirely out of spray foam to be more conservative of materials. We had then moved on to the main task of the day, which involved coating all of the carved out food pieces from the previous day in Gesso. Some of us stayed behind to complete this task while others had gone out to go shopping for more supplies. We had also painted one of the large bowls with Gesso. We found that the best way for all the props to dry properly was to set all the wet items outside on the bush. This was done so we would have time to start adding some color to the pieces. Art Car 2024: Day 5

This morning the food that was made was put into bowls while Tory was decorating another bowl. More expanding foam was put in the body parts, and after it dried, they were painted purple. Cape started working on the back part of the big fish that goes on the roof of the car, and we’re starting to lay out the food on a tracer drawing of the car roof. In the afternoon, we basically did the same thing and picked up where we left off. Some students started making the last couple of foods that we’re adding to the roof. We put paint and gesso on the remaining food. Art Car 2024: Day 4

As the last day of the week and the half way point of our project draws to a close, everybody is feeling optimistic. The food pieces are almost all painted and looking amazing. The manikin limbs are (getting) ready to be attached and everyone is very enthusiastic. We (have been) very productive.
