Art Car 2022 Day 3

Today was the third day of the 2022 Art Car J-Term. We are excited to say that the base layer on the car is finished being painted! We spent the first part of the day learning more about art cars and artists. On day one, we ordered materials for the car decorations, for example, floral foam, moss, rocks, brushes, and more. While we waited for our materials to arrive we watched a movie called Auto Morphosis. This movie gave us a better understanding of why artists make art cars, and how they choose their themes. For example, one artist wanted to spread awareness about littering and covered her car in litter and signs. Another artist wanted to see people's reactions when they 'discovered something new' so he covered his car in cameras. The movie gave us inspiration and a better understanding of the stories behind different art cars.

After finishing the movie, we discussed our interests and fascination from the movie and then began working with the floral foam which came in. We took different tools like: foam carving knifes, knifes, and clay carving tools. We decided to all make our own version at first to have different variations of mushrooms for the car to make them more unique. we spent the rest of the day carving mushrooms. We made different sized mushrooms using half a block of floral foam, a full block, two blocks and etc. Everyone got better with practice and we ended making over 45 mushrooms.

As we carved the mushrooms we also discussed how we where going to paint the mushrooms tomorrow. We unanimisly decided on painting them all red and white. We also decided to us the scraps to decorate the car as well.
