Art Car 2023: Day 5

Tuesday, January 10: In the morning we began the day by finishing up the small cake decor. The cakes are styrofoam with plastic elevated holders. The cakes were already painted with a pink color pallet and topped with designs made of caulk to replicate decorative frosting. The cake holders were painted gold. To complete them we painted a second layer of gold on the holders. Then we added a protective clear coat to the cakes and set them outside to dry with the holders. Later most of the group went outside to the car and hand painted a “patisserie” sign on the side of the car. While this was going on for the next few hours I worked on shaping the the big three-tiered centerpiece cakes into a more rounded wedding cake shape. The day ended with the whole crew outside helping pickup the styrofoam scraps. Today was productive and fun. Finalizing the small cakes is a strong step towards completion and allows us to focus on other things we need to do. Getting the centerpiece shaped means the bulk of the work for it is done and we only have to work on painting it, decorating it, and then getting it on the car along with the small cakes. A lot of progress was made which puts us on track to have an easy time getting the car put together in time. -- Cape, class of 2024
