Patricia

Today our main objective for the day was to assemble Patricia the octopus, and that is exactly what we accomplished. The day prior, we had finished glittering and top coating so all we had to do was attache everything together. We were unsure in how we were going to adhere the body and tentacles, but we decided to use a combination of clear silicone and spray foam. There were a few challenges along the way, for example we couldn’t get the tentacles to keep form, but we embedded wire through the noodles and shaped it using that. We also struggled with the spray foam because in order for tentacles to stick well, we had to let it dry completely before letting go, but that problem was easily solved with some duct tape. On a more positive note, our googly eyes finally came in the mail and they look absolutely perfect on the body. Art Car 2024: Day 6

This morning half of our group worked on trying to finish painting all of the foam food. The other half went outside to the car to attach some of the mannequin limbs to the car. We also finished painting the other limbs and worked on carving the big fish, which will be on the top of the car. By the time lunch started we still had foam food to carve and paint, and the fish was not done yet either. However, we did finish gluing and painting the limbs. In the afternoon we continued to paint the foam food, and we carved more foam food. Cape continued to carve the big fish. Some of the group went outside to work on painting a face on the hood of the car and gluing more decorations to the sides and back of the car. Today we started gluing our decorations to the car, and we are almost done painting all of the foam food. Art Car 2022, Day 2 - "The Second Step"

This is the second day of the Art Car J-Term. We started the day by watching a video that showed many of the cars from one year's Art Car Parade to gather inspiration for the style we wanted to use. After that, we went out to the car to start painting the first layer of the car using a darkish green. We had 4 people (Asher, Leila, Ariela, and Oliver) working on the detailing with small brushes and 2 people (Jayla and Lily) working on the main parts of the body with paint rollers. This process did not take very long, about 45 minutes, and we took a long break afterwards while waiting for the paint to dry with lunch following. After lunch, we went to paint the second and final layer of the car. This didn't take very long but it was mid-day and therefore sunnier than earlier and you know what happens when the sun shines in Houston.
