Art Car 2022, Day 1 - "A New Beginning"

Today was the first day of the 2022 Art Car J-Term. Exciting! Before I start talking about what we did today, let me tell y'all about our art car theme. This year, our group has decided to do a forest-themed art car. More specifically, we are going to decorate our car with mushrooms, moss, vines, animal prints, grass, and much more. In order to know what else, you will have to keep on reading throughout these next two weeks. Now that I have covered what our art car is going to be, let me tell y'all what we did today.

The first thing that our group did was prepare the old art car for the new art we are going to add. In order to prepare the car, we first had to wash all of it down with sponges and water. The car was quite dirty after sitting in our school parking lot for extended periods gathering dust. After sponging the car down, we used a wire brush to scrape some of the peeling paint off the car. This way the car would be smooth when we paint over it and not bumpy. Once the car was washed and scraped down a bit, we went inside to brainstorm the supplies we would need to complete our forest-themed art car this year. Some of the supplies that we decided on were large foam blocks, moss, foam cutters, and much more.

As we finished brainstorming, it was time to paint. Our group began to paint a white base coat over the beautiful Andy Warhol-themed art that was painted on the car in the previous J-Term. Some people in the group used smaller paintbrushes to do the fine details of the base coat, while others used paint rollers to paint over the larger surfaces, such as the hood and sides of the car. Once we completed painting the base coat onto the car, we decided to take a field trip to buy some other supplies we will need to complete our art car. We stopped at a hardware store where we bought green paint, caulk, and some caulk guns. After the hardware store, we drove back to the school where it was already time to go home. This is going to be a fun J-Term, I can feel it.
